Planning and Writing your Written Report
I. Select a topic & gather information.
II. Preliminary analysis and planning of your oral presentation.
A. Questions to ask yourself:
1. What information is wanted?
2. Who will read the report?
3. For what purpose will it be used?
4. What problem or problems am I expected to solve?
III. Writing your report
A. Determine the points you want to make.
B. Decide what Tables and Figures you want to use.
C. Select most appropriate references to cite.
D. Finalize your outline and use it as the skeleton;
one line for each paragraph.
E. Don't start writing text at the beginning.
F. Be willing to rewrite--The best writer is a good rewriter.
